Lion In The Son, born in the winter of 2010 was initially a spell of sounds cast by Danny Baptista as a gift to his newly born son Zorion Wolf. Danny, also the lead singer / rhythm guitarist of Brooklyn psychedelic punky reggae band “The Cool and Deadly" was now entering his new life of being a dad was faced with the reality of having to choose being available for family over being on the road touring much like his father before. However, Danny chose family.

With the help of fellow Cool and Deadly bandmate, bassist David Dovo. he started writing some electronic based tunes pulling from his wide arsenal of influences. These weekly hazy writing sessions were called the Rum and Bass sessions, where they were joined by fellow Cool and Deadly reggae drummer Billy Szeflinski, saxophonists Ben Jaffe and Henry Baptista,
trumpet player Mark DaCruz and Danny’s wife Claudia DeSousa-Baptista on back up vocals.

Sonically, Danny was channeling a very tropical mix of synthesizer heavy 80’s Cabo Verde sound due to his Cabo Verde Creole upbringing, along with a heavy dose of 80’s B-boy electro sound. Mixing the two sounds together while pouring over a heavy molasses dub sound naturally from his reggae pocket, Lion In The Son was finally alive. With the help of good friend Clay Wells Holley on vocal production and mixing, coupled with Billy Szeflinski on dubs, this was truly a magical family affair from beginning to end.
